This past June, the Rye City School District Board of Education appointed Jennifer Johnson as an Assistant Principal for Guidance and Student Support Services at Rye High School. Johnson has been at the school for eight years, and previously served as a Spanish teacher and writing mentor.

 

This past June, the Rye City School District Board of Education appointed Jennifer Johnson as an Assistant Principal for Guidance and Student Support Services at Rye High School. Johnson has been at the school for eight years, and previously served as a Spanish teacher and writing mentor.

 

In addition to teaching all levels of Spanish and working with students on various writing assignments, including college applications and essays, Johnson has served as faculty advisor to the National Honor Society and to the Class of 2012 throughout their four years in the school. She has represented faculty on the Excellence Team and Technology Committee, and participated on the FLES and high school Spanish hiring committees. In the fall of 2011, Johnson received a Distinguished Service Award from the District.

 

In her new role, Johnson is responsible for coordination of all student support services at the middle and high schools, and supervision and coordination of grade 6-12 guidance services. Her teaching background has provided her with significant experience in college counseling, as she has mentored and advised students throughout the application process and accompanied them on college visits.

 

Prior to joining the District in 2004, Johnson worked as an attorney, a career in which she developed skills that she has been able to apply to her position as an educational leader. She has previously served as a career counselor at Fordham University’s School of Law.

 

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, an M. A. in Spanish from Middlebury College, and an M.A. in Applied Linguistics from Columbia University Teachers College.
