At its annual Spring Luncheon June 2, the Rye Newcomers and Neighbors Club named Silvat Malik and Susan Watson Co-Presidents of the organization for the term beginning July 1. They succeed Carol Pouchie and Carol Annett, who have served in the positions since 2013.
Before moving to Rye in 1992 with her husband and three sons, Silvat Malik lived in the United Kingdom, Latin America, South Asia, and the Middle East and was active in newcomers’ clubs in Malaysia, Mexico, and Turkey. Malik, a native of Pakistan, is a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker.
Susan Watson lived in Rye for six years beginning in 1998, and returned to Rye in 2013 and joined the newcomers right away. She is an executive recruiter in New York City
Malik and Watson have previously served as committee chairs for the organization, putting together Morning Coffee events and managing the Book Club.
The Rye Newcomers Club was founded more than 50 years ago, and welcomes members from Rye, Rye Brook, Harrison, Port Chester and other nearby communities. It changed its name in 2004 to reflect the growing proportion of long-term residents in its membership. Its primary goal is to enrich the life of its members by offering social activities and promoting networking and friendships within the community.
