Maureen Gallicano

 

Maureen C. Gallicano, who spent her life in Rye, passed away peacefully November 27 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx. She was 74.
 
She married Richard V. Gallicano September 29, 1957, and raised two sons, Michael and William. 
 
Mrs. Gallicano shared her remarkable bookkeeping and organizational skills with many organizations and businesses throughout the Rye community. “Toto”, as she was affectionately known, enjoyed traveling the world. Among her favorite destinations were Hawaii, Guam, Thailand, and the Virgin Islands. She also enjoyed visiting her sons and their families in Florida and Montana. An active member of the Rye Recreation Seniors, she will be remembered for her sense of humor.
 
Mrs. Gallicano is survived by her brother, William Mertz of Arizona; her sons, Michael Gallicano and his wife Melanie of Weston, Fla., and William Gallicano and his wife Mary of Anaconda, Mont.; a grandson Max; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
 
The family will receive friends November 30 at Graham Funeral Home from 4–8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Church of the Resurrection December 1 at 10 a.m.Memorial donations in her name may be made to Calvary Hospital, Bronx, NY or Rosary Hill Home, Hawthorne, N.Y.

 

 

Mary Warren

 

Mary C. Warren, formerly of Rye, passed away peacefully November 19. She was 89.Born in New York City on March 20, 1922, she and her three sisters and brother grew up in Greenwich Village.During World War II she worked at Memorial Sloan-Kettering as a phlebotomist, while pursuing a degree in chemistry at Hunter College. After receiving her degree, she became a perfumer for Van Ameringen-Haebler, which later became International Flavors and Fragrances.
 
She married John F. Warren in 1952 in New York City. They moved to Rye in 1965. While she and her husband raised their two daughters, Mrs. Warren earned a Master’s degree in Education from Manhattanville College. She taught elementary school for several years. Later, she returned to her first career as a perfumer creating flavors and fragrances. Gardening and tai chi were among the favorite activities she and her husband shared.  
 
The Warrens were married for 49 years. In 2002, the year after his death, Mrs. Warren moved to Marietta, Georgia.
 
She was the beloved mother of Vivien W. Lutz of Branchburg, New Jersey, and Carol W. Freeman of Marietta, Georgia; mother-in-law of Peter F. Lutz and Ross T. Freeman; and grandmother of Charles R. and Meredith N. Freeman.
 
A wake will be held at Graham Funeral Home December 2 from 2–4 p.m. and 7–9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held December 3 at 11 a.m. at Church of the Resurrection.

John Terenzi

John R. Terenzi, a Rye resident for 41 years, passed away at home November 27. He was 84.

 

He was born August 18, 1927 in Port Chester, to Saverio and Mary Meglio Terenzi. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific. He married Agnes Barbara in 1950 at Corpus Christi Church in Port Chester.

 

For many years, Mr. Terenzi was a stonemason. He then attended night school and earned an accounting degree from Iona College in 1974.
He served as Treasurer of Local 5 of the Westchester Labor Union. Mr. Terenzi worked for the Town of Greenwich as an internal auditor, retiring in 1992.

 

Mr. Terenzi was a member of the Retreat League at Corpus Christi Church.

 

After moving to Rye, he became involved in the early organization of the Rye Nature Center, serving as Treasurer and then President. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Port Chester Senior Citizens, and Rye Seniors. He was a devout member of Resurrection Parish in Rye.

 

In addition to his wife of 61 years, he is survived by his children, Joan Vita, Dr. Thomas J. Terenzi, and Marie T. Conti; his grandchildren, Joey, Alicia, and Arianna; his brother, Frank; many beloved nieces and nephews, and a close family friend, Stephen Bertossi. He was predeceased by his brother Alfred (Zeke) Terenzi.

 

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated November 30 at Resurrection Church. Interment followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Rye Brook.
