Come September, Rye families count on Summerfest, “a field day of fun”, to cap off the Labor Day weekend. Last Sunday, Doug Carey once again orchestrated a fine afternoon at Rye Recreation Park.

Whether residents were tossing balls or water balloons, having a serious pillow fight, racing in potato sacks, or running under the spray from the Rye Fire Department truck, they were smiling. And as the sun faded, couples took to the dance floor and swayed to the sounds of the Reddy Valentino Orchestra.
A few tears were also shed in memory of John Carey, Doug’s brother, who passed away last year after a long illness.
