Mrs. Joan DiPalma and Mrs. Marjorie Kraus, independent living residents of Sterling Park at The Osborn, were honored at the Visiting Nurse Services in Westchester & Putnam Gala held at the historic Tarrytown House Estate on the Hudson May 10. Mrs. DiPalma, a longtime VNSWP board member, received the Katharine McCloskey Wilson Award. Mrs. Kraus received the Donor Recognition Award.

As a board member from 1984-2012, including serving as chair from 1999 to 2003, Mrs. DiPalma played a key role in launching the agency’s “Ask the Visiting Nurse” program, which provides health screening and counseling to older residents in Westchester. The program has grown to over 60 senior, assisted living, and community centers. Mrs. DiPalma is a former operating room nurse, who served on the Board of Hospice & Palliative Care from 1986-2011, and is a longtime resident of Rye. Today, she continues her volunteer service as President of the Sterling Park Residents Association at The Osborn.

Mrs. Kraus has been a supporter of VNSWP for 20 years. Her mother, Beatrice Jacobs, served as president of VNS of Mt. Vernon, one of the seven agencies that merged to become the organization that is now VNSWP. Mrs. Kraus has many special memories of the dedicated nurses who worked at the agency where her mother served and is delighted to honor her mother’s memory and work with her support of VNSWP. Mrs. Kraus graduated from Mt. Holyoke College and worked at J. Walter Thompson advertising agency. She and her husband reside at The Osborn.
