Rye Recreation’s 5th-6thgrade double elimination basketball tournament culminated March 12 with the Knicks beating the Trailblazers 44-41 for the championship. Two days before the final game, the Knicks handed the Trailblazers their first defeat, 35-34, on a last second 3 pointer.
There were eight teams in the league and each team was comprised of 10 boys. Rye Rec has been running the league for 20 years and many of the coaches and volunteers are past players. The league has an applause-only policy to promote good sportsmanship.
