There’s nothing like the party spirit to chase the winter blues away. And there’s no better time than now to plan for those special celebrations this spring — graduations, significant birthdays, or showers. Julie Ontaneda of My Classic Party sees several new and fun trends on the party front that will surely make whatever event you’re planning a hit.

Food bars continue to please the graduation crowd that likes to mingle, says Ontaneda. “2016 grads are likely to see burger, taco, ice-cream, and nacho bars.” She sees the popularity of photo booths continuing, particularly the new booths with links to social media platforms. Both the food bars and photo booths are divided into their own section, and a line is setup using Retractable Stanchions. This prevents these gathering spots from blocking walking paths or other important areas.

Bridal showers have moved from homes to local restaurants, wedding ballrooms, and clubs, she observes. Shower brunches continue to be popular with mimosa bars and the new and trendy donut bars. Traditional shower games are now passé and in their place are activity showers – jewelry making or cooking demos with a chef, for example. “We are also seeing evening showers for couples, which are more like cocktail parties with presents.”

The new party colors of the year are rose quartz and serenity blue. Colored or sparkly mason jars and letters for personalizing through balloons or cake toppers are in. For dessert, think drip cakes with toppings and more donuts, even donut trucks.

Ontaneda founded My Classic Party, a full-service party planning company, three years ago after a 15-year career in banking. For more ideas, visit www.myclassicparty.com.
