Herewith a postscript to your wonderful story on the Pierce family. They were and are special. Scott Pierce has been my closest friend since we were students at Milton School back in the 1930s.

When the City of Rye purchased the Rye Wood golf course, he and I played there many times.

Once, when we were playing with Miles Reilly and Jack Holmes — both Rye residents — I made a hole-in-one on the 17th hole. The Daily Item, the paper of record of the day, reported it with this headline: “Member of Pierce family foursome scores hole-in-one.”

As I remember, I don’t think my name was mentioned.
