12/8: Mother reported child attempted to commit suicide. Found her with cut wrist and shoestring around neck.

 

12/9: Complainant reported daughter screaming after refusing to loan her the family car.

 

12/9: Rye High School student reported white work van came out from side street and followed him at a low speed along Forest Avenue for block and a half. Observed white male 30-something in passenger seat staring at him. Called mother via cell phone, turned down side street. Van continued down Forest. Area checked with no results.

 

12/10: Stone brick thrown through car window overnight on Florence Avenue.

 

12/10: Graffiti reported on side of non-working PayMeter in Car Park 1.

 

12/11: Male walking southbound on Post Road near Smith Street with bloodied face.

 

12/11: Caller reported two bikes abandoned on Hix Avenue by golf course.

 

12/12: Observed damaged vehicle unoccupied on front wall of Rye Arts Center. Vehicle leaking fluids and disabled. Pictures taken, vehicle towed, note left for owner.

 

12/12: Apawamis Club groundskeeper reported vandalism on 17th hole. Numerous rakes, ball washer, and two irrigation controllers broken. Staff found a red backpack on scene, which police placed in evidence. Damage estimated over $10,000.

 

12/12: Rear of Boston Post Road business tagged by graffiti. No known suspects or witnesses.

 

12/13: Downtown officer notified of fresh graffiti on walkway between Car Park 1 and Purchase Street. North wall hit with copious amount of spray paint.

 

12/13: Walk-in reported receiving call from credit card company that a shopper was using his Bloomingdale’s card.

 

12/13: Resident said daughter called him to report she was fighting with her mother. Upon arrival, mother seemed surprised to see officers. According to her, argument was about not handling a chore in the household and subsequent grounding. Daughter admitted she attempted to get back at mother by falsely accusing her of physical contact.

 

12/15: Purse recovered on Rye Rec tennis courts along with TD Bank card belonging to Julie Curleen. Unable to locate contact number for owner.

 

12/15: Purchase Street business owner said she stepped out of store for 30 minutes leaving employee to handle customers. When she returned, observed black Prada handbag, valued at $550, missing from original location. Complainant and her employee stated two suspicious females came in around same time bag went missing.

 

12/15: Walk-in reported being harassed by a male subject in front of the YMCA.

 

12/16: Complainant stated a credit card from Chase was taken out in his name in Massachusetts, and used to spend $1,135.18 in Quincy.

 

12/17: Caller reported wife intentionally broke his bedroom door.

 

12/17: Wife of previous complainant said husband was threatening her with a crowbar. Husband was downstairs in house fixing lock on bedroom door when he made the threat. Claimed he made no threat and was simply fixing the lock wife had broken earlier in the day. Two parties living in separate sections of house. Wife added he had illegal handgun in a safe. Husband said he didn’t know what she was talking about. Thorough search performed of husband’s room with no results, but he did hand over hunting knife he no longer needed or wanted.

 

12/17: Pulled over blue Chevy pickup traveling on Boston Post Road after failing to signal onto Peck Avenue. Driver had no paperwork for vehicle and did not possess license. In fact, had no ID of any kind and claimed not to know who truck belonged to. Driver had strong odor of alcohol emanating from breath with bloodshot, watery eyes. Officer observed several empty Budweiser cans scattered on backseat floor. Asked driver to exit and noticed half-drunk can in driver’s seat. Placed driver in handcuffs and continued investigation. Found black bag containing five cold Buds and bottle of tequila behind driver’s seat. While preparing vehicle to be towed, observed ignition key to be loose and discovered key actually belonged to a Hummer H2. Vehicle impounded.

After failing multiple sobriety tests, subject read DWI and Miranda warnings and submitted to chemical test that returned a .14 BAC. Subject about to be released to brother on $500 bail when HQ received call from Department of Immigration stating offender in country illegally and requesting Rye Police hold him. ADA asked police to hold flight risk candidate on $50,000 cash bail.

 

12/18: Walk-in reported her son brought home phone found in NYC cab thinking it belonged to a friend. It didn’t. Call received from Ho-Ho-Kus PD indicated owner of phone reported missing. Later that morning Ho-Ho-Kus PD called back to say owner located and that he would retrieve phone.

 

12/18: Flagged down by complainant around 5 a.m. on Boston Post Road who said he was attacked by his father with a machete in Stamford. Complainant had deep laceration to left palm and superficial wounds and abrasions on upper arms and neck. Gave conflicting stories about how wounds occurred, was at times incoherent, but did not appear to be under influence of drugs or alcohol. Possible EDP (emotionally disturbed person). Stamford police dispatcher notified.

 

12/18: Above complainant left bike on BPR during transport to HQ. Firearm discovered in the leaves in front of bike. Weapon not loaded, but spent round lodged in chamber.

 

12/18: Same complainant, a 21-year-old Rye resident, requested police presence around noon to retrieve property from his apartment. Upon arrival, complainant outside residence with ex-girlfriend’s father. Came to agreement he would go into house and retrieve only personal clothing and nothing deemed disputable. Entered and retrieved two garbage bags full of clothing and a speaker that all parties agreed belonged to him. Exited residence and complainant advised no longer allowed to return. Ex-girlfriend and father advised on how to obtain a temporary order of protection.

 

12/19: Dispatched to Trails End address for reported larceny from vehicle. Victim stated he parked car around noon and noticed rear left window smashed upon return.

 

12/19: Walk-in said he was victim of a “grandparent scam”. Received call from person claiming to be his grandson on 12/13, who said he was attending a wedding in Trinidad and Tobago and needed money because of an accident. Victim wired money (over $11,000) several times over four days to cover court fees, medical expenses, auto repair, insurance, and traveling expenses. On 12/17, spoke with actual grandson, who never traveled to Trinidad and Tobago.

 

12/19: Evergreen Avenue residents left home 12/12 and returned 12/19 to find one of three vehicles in driveway had right front passenger-side window smashed.

 

12/19: Complainant received letter from person in England addressed to husband who died in 1975. Letter stated one of her children was killed in an accident in England and that he was acting as power of attorney. Further stated son left over $9 million in account and if the complainant wanted to receive money he would fax her the next step to be taken. Complainant’s son alive and well and living next door.12/20: Walk-in reported finding air rifle on front lawn.

 

12/20: Complainant received numerous calls and voicemails of harassing nature from estranged father. Father wanted money for an old cell phone bill from 2007.

 

12/21: Walk-in stated her home was egged over the summer by vandals, which left black marks on house.

 

12/22: While on routine foot patrol in Car Park 1 along Locust Avenue, village officer called on radio by parking enforcement officer and asked to stop by Elm Place business to check on suspicious male suspect. Man had identified self to employees as a police officer. Seemed to be in possession of a handgun, holstered in waistband.

When officer arrived, shop owner pointed out white male behind the counter who was using the business line. Complainant said offender identified self as a military police officer from NYC, and needed to use phone because his patrol vehicle broke down in Port Chester. She was suspicious, however.

 

Officer quickly identified suspect as Cory Hopf, the 21-year-old EDP from earlier December incidents in Rye. Immediately detained using handcuffs and searched him for weapon. Seized black imitation firearm from holster in waistband. Transported to HQ for further investigation and charged with second degree criminal impersonation.

 

12/22: Walk-in discovered front and rear passenger tires damaged in Car Park 4.12/22: Father reported his daughter lost wallet at 5:30 p.m. somewhere between Lester’s and Smoothie King. Wallet made from duct tape, blue in color on the outside, white side pocket with red/orange coloring.

 

12/2: Rock thrown through Rye Art Gallery window.

 

12/22: Passerby reported youths walking toward train station drinking beer. Upon arrival, youths fled leaving behind 12-pack of Bud Light and three 12-ounce cans of Coors Light.

 

12/24: Commuter parked vehicle in Depot Plaza at 8:30 p.m. and upon returning at 10:30 a.m. next day found passenger-side rear quarter window smashed.

 

12/26: Resident found credit card near Sunrise Pizza and brought it to HQ.

 

12/26: Rye resident said Purchase Street neighbor annoyed at parking situation behind building. Stated landlord showed her where to park, but neighbor had confronted her in past, including opening door of her vehicle and flashing a badge. Said he might be retired law enforcement. Offender annoyed at where she parked earlier in day, and while walking out of parking lot, almost hit her with his Mazda. Concerned for safety after latest incident.

 

12/26: Construction equipment stolen from Oakland Beach Avenue address between 12/23 and report.
