Police Blotter (9-23-2011)

8/31: Sailboat broke free of its mooring, wound up high and dry on south shore of Hen Island. Police marine unit responded.

 

9/1: Mongoose bike, with “Connelly” written on underside, found near Rye HS parking lot. Taken to Police HQ and placed in rack.


9/1: Sick raccoon reported acting rabid in Maple Avenue homeowner’s driveway. Animal dispatched.


9/2: Altercation between two Rye Golf Club workers: one accused the other of deliberately scratching rear door of vehicle at 5 a.m. Statements taken from suspect and witnesses; owner’s deposition filed.


9/2: RTP security reported several “Dog Walking” signs pulled down overnight. Signs replaced, incident documented.


9/2: Citizen turned in two checks made out to cash, total of $1,375, found in HSBC parking lot. Account owners contacted.


9/2: Owner of Purdy Avenue restaurant wanted to document his ejection of troublesome customer; concerned he would
try to return.


9/3: Tarrytown driver struck tree in early morning on Stuyvesant Avenue. Transported to Westchester Medical Center.


9/3: Six-year-old injured by falling tree limb on Larkspur Lane. Taken to Westchester Medical Center.


9/3: Gold Honda Odyssey seen driving south on Midland Avenue without headlights just before midnight. Took I-287 West ramp; finally stopped on I-95 South ramp. Odor of alcohol detected. New Rochelle driver admitted having “dos Coronas”. Failed field sobriety test, missed steps 2, 5, 7, and 9 outbound on Walk & Turn, and every step back. Alco-sensor registered .18%. Operator arrested, car seized, six-pack of empty Corona bottles taken into evidence. Released on $250 bail with 9/06 court date.
 
9/3: VW driving down Peck Avenue stopped for no rear license plate and obstructed vision out windshield, due to multiple air fresheners hanging from rear-view mirror. Unless the air fresheners were putting out a scent called Marijuana Fields, officers suspected there were drugs in car. They were right. Drugs, pipe, cigarette, cigar and rolling papers all disgorged from passengers’ pockets. Port Chester driver and three passengers arrested, car towed.


9/4: Central Avenue homeowners returned from vacation to find front porch swing displaced, porch window frame cracked with storm window on ground and, most ominously, living room chair repositioned. Officers dispatched, pictures taken. Homeowners later called to say Fire Department had entered property after Irene and caused damage.


9/4: Patron of Purchase Street restaurant reported having words with another diner upon going in to dinner, then finding his vehicle keyed afterwards. No witnesses; statement taken.


9/4: Officer pulled up behind two stopped vehicles at intersection of Purchase Street and Theodore Fremd Avenue. Black jeep Grand Cherokee had rear-ended red Chevy Traverse. Jeep owner’s reply to what happened was, “…this bull****.” Swayed as he said it. Seemed to be intoxicated. Gave standard drinker’s reply to officer: “I only had two beers.” Failed all three parts of field sobriety test. Arrested, filling patrol car with alcoholic odor from what must have been two nuclear beers. Read DWI warning three times, refused to take blood alcohol test three times. Rye defendant, with tattoo of shamrock on right elbow, American flag and farm animal (huh?) on right ankle, finally  processed and released to friends on $500 cash bail.


9/5: Forest Avenue family returned from vacation to find home burglarized. Over $10,000 in cameras, watches, jewelry, German Army collectibles taken. Detectives investigating.


9/6: North Street resident reported dog was bitten by neighbor’s dog. Sworn statement filed, Animal Bite report completed.9/6: Valleyview Avenue owner of 2006 Mercedes-Benz contracted with trucking company to ship car to California. Car never arrived; trucking company doesn’t exist. Statements taken.


9/6: Richard Place resident reported Long Island man had been misrepresenting self as attorney in order to fraudulently receive money, property, and services from complainant since 2009. Owner’s deposition filed, additional paperwork taken.


9/7: Mendota Avenue resident reported washer and dryer removed from her post-Irene dumpster by trespasser 9/03. Forest Avenue homeowners reported dumpster-diving thief had struck on same day. Statements taken.


9/9: Theodore Fremd Avenue businessman reported ex-employee hacking onto his webpage. Cyber police dispatched.


9/11: Black and gray Element backpack left on City Hall steps. No ID recovered, no articles of value. Scattered nearby were blue T-shirt reading “Spitfire”, gray T-shirt reading “VANS”, yellow T-shirt reading “Scientology Volunteer Minister”, and one gray sock. Police searching for man missing gray sock.


9/13: Grace Church Street resident claimed late-40s white male with brown hair drove gray Mercedes-Benz repeatedly past her house, each time stopping and staring at woman’s nanny. No license plate recorded.


9/14: Douglas Circle resident reported purse stolen from car parked in driveway overnight. No damage to vehicle. Owner’s deposition taken. Purse later found in neighbor’s yard.


9/14: Renter of VW Jetta parked in son’s driveway on Brevoort Lane reported side window smashed, GPS unit taken. Statement filed.
