8/11: Small white rowboat spotted near Buoy 40 with no running lights. Operator, with no registration as well, assured officers vessel belonged to Coveleigh Club. Vessel impounded, seven summonses issued pending contact with club.

 

8/13: Red Schwinn mountain bike, left at Rye High School for a week, taken to Police HQ and placed in rack. Recovered property form filled out.

 

8/13: Hix Avenue resident believes the anchor he purchased in 2008 and had stolen two years later is on a Mamaroneck dock owned by Sea Tow Western Long Island. Sworn statement and supporting documents submitted.

 

8/13: Seventeen-foot Glaston reported disabled off Scotch Caps. Hip-towed into Milton marina.

 

8/13: Rowboat and four fishing poles stolen from Forest Avenue residence. Owner’s deposition filed. Boat recovered five days later, but not rods.

 

8/13: Resident turned in two inert World War II hand grenades. Removed by County Police.

 

8/14: Sunken boats discovered in their slips at Milton marina. Owners informed.

 

8/14: After midnight, owner of Purchase Street deli/nursery reported teenagers had knocked down “Fresh Corn” signs before running away southbound. Youths later stopped on Wappanocca Avenue and admitted mischief. Could not explain what they had against fresh corn.

 

8/14: Vehicle break-ins overnight on Platt Lane, Roger Sherman Place, and Apawamis Avenue. Windows broken, and GPS and Apple iTouch units taken. Statements taken from everyone.

 

8/14: Vehicle stopped for speeding on Old Post Road near Packard Court. Bridgeport driver, tattoo reading “Bronx” on right arm, produced suspended license. Arrested, released on $100 cash bail.
 
8/15: Purchase Street restaurant employee tried to stop officer from towing car for unpaid tickets. Stated she’d left money in City Hall drop box. Was advised box wouldn’t be opened until Tuesday. Story corroborated by accommodating clerk at Finance Dept.

 

8/15: Resident turned in starter’s pistol and box of “racket bombs” her late husband had used for geese control. Said she didn’t want them in her house.

 

8/16: Divorced father went to Bulkley Manor residence to pick up daughter; was spit upon and threatened with knife by ex-wife’s boyfriend. Sought order of protection. Next day, daughter called police saying mother was abusing her. Victim and father referred to Family Court.

 

8/17: Homeowner reported un-known party threw tomato at their second-story window, then smeared fecal matter on front door, latest in a series of incidents. Just coincidence home located on Brown Avenue.8/17: Brevoort Lane homeowner reported damage to wooden gate. Civilian statement taken.

 

8/17: Cornell University student lost wallet in Ithaca; unauthorized purchases made with charge cards. Statement filed.

 

8/17: Peck Avenue resident wanted to “go on record” that negligent delivery of her mail allowed neighbor to read sensitive documents from Rye City School District. Statement filed.

 

8/17: Mid-20s African-American female of slim build entered employees-only rear door of Elm Place restaurant, said she was looking for bathroom. Dishwasher directed her to go through front doors, then walked around side of building to search for woman. Later, manager discovered cash box in rear office missing, with $980 stolen. Surveillance tapes showed same female re-entering back entrance and removing box. Detectives on scene.

 

8/18: Manager of Purchase Street bagel shop found customer’s $8,000 check on floor. Initial calls to Larchmont writer of check unanswered; property secured in locker.

 

8/18: Burglary at Purchase Street decorator’s shop: rear door jimmied, computer laptop and carrying case taken. Detective on scene took photos.

 

8/18: West Harrison driver parked in front of fire hydrant on Purchase Street stopped before she could pull away. Officer detected odor of marijuana. Driver insisted she had no drugs. Search of car turned up glass pipe and plastic containers of marijuana. Charged with illegal parking, possession of controlled substance, and fibbing.

 

8/18: Question: if your license were suspended, would you drive with cracked windshield and no seatbelt? For Port Chester driver of green Honda Civic on Cottage Street, answer must be “Yes.” Arrested, processed, released on bail.

 

8/20: Wireless panic alarm received from Webster Bank at 11 a.m. Male suspect wearing long-sleeved white shirt and grayish-blue hat seen running toward Purdy Avenue by teller. $1,000 taken. Port Chester, Harrison, County, and State K-9 units also responded. FBI informed. Investigation ongoing.

 

8/20: George Langeloh Court homeowner reported vehicle was egged overnight while parked in driveway. Statement taken.

 

8/21: Resident turned in Rye Garnets nylon bag containing GameBoy and $8. Placed in recovered property locker.

 

8/21: HP Netbook computer stolen from front-window area of Longford’s ice cream shop  8/17 between 3 and 4 p.m. Owner’s deposition taken.

 

8/21: Thorne Place homeowner reported spotting red Hampton Beach Cruiser bicycle in tree line across street. Placed in HQ rack for safekeeping.

 

8/22: Milton Road resident received unusual credit cards in mail. A) They weren’t requested, and B) one had $4,000 already charged to it, by someone else. Credit companies and stores involved requested recipient obtain police report. He did.

 

8/23: Midland Avenue resident found man’s wallet at corner of Playland Parkway. Returned to Boston Post Road owner.

 

8/23: Deer struck by car on Boston Post Road dispatched.

 

8/25: Grace Church Street resident reported Birmingham, AL bank contacted him re: possible fraudulent account opened using his Social and birth date. Statement taken.

 

8/25: Zodiac watercraft belonging to AYC Commodore found washed up behind Milton Harbor house. Returned to club.

 

8/27: Intoxicated male, shirt torn and sweating profusely, ushered out of club on Stuyvesant Avenue after striking and injuring fiancée, woman’s son, and his own daughter. Placed under arrest for 3rd Degree Assault and Endangering Welfare of Child.

 

8/27: During Tropical Storm Irene, officer with Police-Fire team injured while helping rescue heavyset, handicapped woman and her family trapped in four feet of water in their BMW SUV on Highland Road. Officer left front-end loader and waded through water to lift woman from her underwater position and carry her to safety, sustaining injury to right hip in process. Will seek medical aid if pain persists.
