Police Break Burglary By Tracking iPhone

Rye police made a major burglary bust by tracking two suspects via a stolen iPhone, Police Commissioner William Connors said.

Rye police made a major burglary bust by tracking two suspects via a stolen iPhone, Police Commissioner William Connors said.

“It was a nice piece of work,” Connors said of the investigation involving Rye Detective Robert “Jake” Chittenden and Police Officers Michael Anderson and Christine Incalcatera.

Police received a call about 5:15 a.m. Sunday when a homeowner on Kirby Lane North found a 20-year-old woman had entered her home through the garage. She had used the garage remote left in an unlocked car outside, police siad. The suspect fled in a dark SUV.

Police used a tracking device to locate the phone heading to New York City, then back to Westchester, then to Greenwich, Conn. The suspects were arrested outside a friend’s home in Greenwich.

Stephanie Zea, 20, of Port Chester and Jesus Barajas, 22, of New Rochelle were charged with second-degree burglary and jailed in Bridgeport, Conn.

Connors said the pair will be arraigned in Connecticut, but face a warrant for extradition back to Rye to face charges here. In addition to the iPhone, a laptop computer, jewelry, prescription pills, and $100 were stolen from the Rye home, police said. The stolen property was recovered as were a set of golf clubs from a neighbor’s car.
