Daniel Warren interim Principal Jane Scheinman has welcomed kindergarteners and first graders with open arms. Conversely, the kids have made her feel at home. “We’re in a pretty good place for the beginning of the year,” she said.

Having enjoyed Pumpkinfest and the Halloween parade, the student body is gearing up for Daniel Warren’s Mock Election. “They’ll be casting ballots for either a sports day or a pajama day in a mock voting booth,” explained Scheinman. “They’re young, but they can understand the importance of having an election.”

This month, they’ll also be working on their Peace Garden, Native American dance assemblies, and a colonial living workshop with the Rye Historical Society. For Thanksgiving, the students will be sharing snacks with their neighboring classes.

During the elementary school’s proclaimed Principal’s Day a few weeks ago, kindergarten teacher Lauren D’Alesandro’s class invited Scheinman to a question-and- answer session. The guest of honor got a kick out of answering a variety of questions, from where she lives to how she feels about puppies. One little girl wants to know how she does her hair.

“Sure, I have to be the disciplinarian, but I want them to know the other side of me as well,” said Scheinman.
