Founded in 1980, the French-American School of New York (FASNY) is located on three rented campuses in Larchmont, Mamaroneck, and Scarsdale. It is an independent, coeducational day school serving over 870 students in Nursery through Grade 12.

 

FASNY offers a rigorous bilingual, bicultural academic program in French and English. The school’s academic program is challenging, adhering to both traditional American and official French curricula. This dual curriculum highlights the best of both the French and American education systems.

 

About 85% of the faculty earned advanced degrees. Students are awarded a FASNY diploma; all of those who took the French Baccalaureate exam passed last spring.

Hackley School is an independent, college-preparatory, non-sectarian, day and boarding school for students in kindergarten through 12^th grade. In 1899, Mrs. Caleb Brewster Hackley, a leading supporter of the Unitarian movement, decided to give her summer mansion in Tarrytown, for the purpose of creating a college preparatory boarding school for boys.

 

The school would welcome students of diverse religious, economic, ethnic, and national origin within an ethos shaped by the school’s Latin motto, Iuncti Iuvamus, which translates as, “United, We Help One Another.”

 

Hackley Hall, as Mrs. Hackley’s mansion had become known, was quickly outgrown by the needs of the new school. Mrs. Hackley funded the purchase of a beautiful estate not far from Hackley Hall, which provided the grounds for the Hackley School that we know today. Construction began, and the first new buildings were in use by 1902.

 

Over the main entrance was engraved the phrase that has represented the Hackley spirit for over a century — “Enter Here To Be And Find A Friend.” What brings us together on this hilltop is not just oustanding academics, but also friendship, and the belief that “character is higher than intellect.” The 2012-2013 enrollment of 840 includes 398 in the Upper School. The Class of 2012 graduated 97 students. 

 

Hackley recently joined a select group of international schools as part of an organization called Round Square. Round Square rests upon six pillars or ideals: Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Leadership and Service.

 

As part of its membership, Hackley students and faculty will be attending the next global conference being held in September 2012 in South Africa.
