Without a doubt, retail life on Purchase Street is growing. Grand opening festivities on October 28 at 269 Purchase Street ushered in a new strip of stores and services at the north end of town. Along for the ride was the Styleliner, a trendy mobile boutique, parked in front. Here’s what’s making a happening place.

Rye native Cristina Coco always loved taking pictures in high school and studied photography in college. After a career in fashion with Barney’s and Henry Beguelin, coupled with the birth of her son, she rekindled her passion for the camera and has opened an eponymous studio, Cristina Coco Photography.

Coco recently shot an ad campaign for the March of Dimes, which will appear on billboards. Her specialty is children and family portraits and she has a knack for making little ones smile. She now photographs toddlers and babies in her new location, while a good portion of her work is conducted on location. To learn more, visit www.Cristinacocophoto.com.

He’s dressed celebrities, styled runway models, and created magazine covers. Spiro Catechis, simply known as Spiro, has many talents as a fashion stylist, cosmetologist, gemologist, and more. “I do the whole look,” said Spiro, who will take customers shopping for the perfect outfit and accessories and style their hair for those special occasions.

His new store, Spiro Style, offers an eclectic mix of estate jewelry, artwork, gift items, home décor, fashion accessories, organic soaps, and even body wraps, popular among celebrities, to help shrink inches. Spiro likes to hunt down what’s hot. His husband, Scott Lalley, an interior designer and artist, designed the space, featuring large branches on which to display merchandise. Lalley’s creativity is also evident in his collages, which are for sale. Spiro’s business partner is Gladys Moreno, a makeup artist.

Born in Greece, Spiro has lived in Manhattan and Larchmont and has Rye roots as the former owner of Playland Market and the Midland Market some 20 years ago. He went from food to fashion after meeting longtime area fashion expert Mary Jane Denzer, a mentor who helped him cultivate his true talent and passion. Walk into Skin N.Y. Westchester and you’ll not only find a tranquil spa-like atmosphere, but also jewelry, clothing, and accessories.

“We are really a place of beauty,” said Julie Pipolo, owner and licensed medical aesthetician. “We’re not a traditional medi-spa; we try to create a unique environment.”

Pipolo brings over 30 years of experience to Rye and Skin N.Y. and offers an array of treatments head to toe. A team of experts is on board to offer customized skin care for women, as well as teens, the latest techniques in anti-aging prevention and skin rejuvenation, acupuncture, weight management, teeth whitening, eyebrow shaping and tinting, and more.

They also stock a wide range of products that other places don’t carry, says Pipolo, who is committed to finding those that truly revitalize the skin. She personally tests each item before putting them on the shelves. Dr. Scott Wells, a Manhattan plastic surgeon, is the medical director. Clothing, jewelry and accessories are provided by Secret Stash. For more information, visit www.Skin-NYWestchester.com.

Another plus, parking is free in back of the stores and on the streets.
