Rye athletes have really been on the ball. Four of them smashed their schools’ career scoring records.

Tyler Fernandez became Rye Country Day’s first boys’ basketball player to score 1,000 points in just three years. The junior guard finished the season with 1,063 career points.

After giving Fernandez the game ball, Wildcats Coach Torsie Judkins said, “In my 15 years of coaching, I have never seen a player more creative offensively. Tyler is one of the most passionate, dedicated, and hard-working players I have ever coached.”

Fernandez knew he was close to scoring his 1,000th point, “but my dad wouldn’t tell me exactly how many I had.”

Another Wildcats’ superstar, senior Rose Rather, broke Rye Country Day’s all-time scoring record in ice hockey last month after racking up 110 goals in two seasons.

Across town, senior Max Twyman smashed Rye High’s 1,000-point mark for career points in basketball during a Section 1 Class A playoff win over Sleepy Hollow. Twyman, the team captain, led the Garnets in scoring for three seasons.

Last but not least, Rye Country Day phenom Carolyn Binder shattered the school’s alltime basketball scoring record of 1,476 points in December, and the senior is still going strong. Binder’s career record stood at 2,017 points before this week’s State playoffs.
