RAC Director Gates Leaves Long Legacy in Short Tenure

The Rye Arts Center announced last week that Helen Gates, Executive Director, will be stepping down from her position in June.

The Rye Arts Center announced last week that Helen Gates, Executive Director, will be stepping down from her position in June. Gates, who came on board in January 2012, is leaving to spend more time with her family and to travel abroad.

President Jeff Taylor had high praise for Gates. “Helen took over the helm three short years ago and has since helped to place The RAC in an enviable position in terms of financial health, educational quality, and artistic reputation. As we prepare to embark upon our 5-year strategic plan, much of the foundation that is now in place is due to Helen’s leadership and vision over the last several years.”

The Center’s 5-year strategic plan, dubbed Vision 2020 and chaired by Board member Rob Weber, includes plans to renovate the 51 Milton Road facility, expand the STEM+Arts curriculum through strategic partnerships, update internal systems/ technology, and increase artistic and cultural offerings through satellite locations.

“I’m very proud of all that we have accomplished over the last several years,” said Gates. “As The RAC embarks on its strategic plan, the timing couldn’t be better for a new dynamic leader to step in and make their mark on the future of the arts in our community. As someone said to me just recently: “This is a plum job for the next leader.’ I couldn’t agree more.”

A search committee is being formed to fill the position by June.
