Braving an early March blizzard, Allison Pataki, daughter of former Governor George Pataki, spoke to a rapt audience at the Rye Historical Society Annual Spring Luncheon at American Yacht Club. This year’s theme was Women Lost to History, a favored one of the author. Both of her critically acclaimed historical novels, “The Traitor’s Wife” based on Peggy Shippen, the young and manipulative wife of Benedict Arnold, and the recently released “The Accidental Empress,” based on the Habsburg Empire’s captivating Empress “Sisi,” are stories of women who contributed far more to the history of their day than is remembered today.

Without a doubt, more than a few of the guests went straight home and curled up by the fire to learn more about how these long-forgotten women changed the course of history.
