The Rye High School Boys Squash Team is primed for the U.S. High School Team Squash Championships, February 7 through 9, after thriving in a challenging season led by varsity captains James Reid, Elliot Meister, and Ward Urban.

Overall, Rye is 8-5 in match and league play. In the Fairwest Public School Squash League, which has expanded to around 15 teams, the Garnets are ranked second. Team A is 4-5, and Team B 4-0. At the Fairwest Jamboree on January 11 at Chelsea Piers in Stamford, Team A came in second place in Division 1, leading 2-1 and only losing to New Canaan in the finals. Team B placed first in Division 2, sweeping the event 3-0.

The upcoming national tournament will take place this year in Philadelphia. Last year’s event was canceled because of weather which was devastating, especially for the seniors. “With the freshman talent we have this year, there is no reason why we cannot repeat the results we had several years ago being among the top three,” said Coach Mat Bruno. He added that the players are excited to stay in Philadelphia and are looking forward to a squash trip to remember.
