Coach Rich Savage said their success was due to the “tremendous team chemistry with the leadership of the 13 seniors on the team.” This cohesiveness was demonstrated by the Garnets’ many last-minute victories.
Savage said each senior filled an important role. Charlotte Tucci was the defensive anchor who always connected with the creative midfield play of Caroline Hyland and Charlotte Romano. Maggie McDermott was the speed on the side that created many scoring opportunities, while Kiera Niemsick was the workhorse on the team, helping on offense and as first back on defense.
Hannah Krapes led the offense in goals and assists. Christina Benincasa, who was hurt early and out for the season, became the assistant coach. Kaitlyn Pryor was the team’s glue, a solid midfield player who always made sure the team was working hard and having a good time.
Katie Nash was an aggressive offensive player, while Molly Nash anchored the midfield and defense. Kerry Lavelle, Charlotte Tucci’s sidekick, was an excellent outside back used to shut the best players in the section down. Amanda Yannett was a tough physical player with an outstanding throw that provided exciting offensive threats for the Garnets. Laura Ann Pacos was the versatile senior who was able to play just about any position on the field.
“The bonds formed on this team go far beyond the daily games and practices,” said Savage. “The 2014 varsity squad became a true family and the friendships they formed will last far beyond our last game.”
