The Rye High girls’ squash program began just three years ago, but the Garnets placed second in League playoffs.

The team is now 8-5.

They were set to compete in Nationals, which were canceled due to the weekend snowstorm, and will not be rescheduled this winter.

The RHS squad is comprised of 29 girls, divided into three teams. Teams 1 and 2 are equivalent to varsity teams, while Team 3 is considered junior varsity. The Garnets with the best individual records in League play were: freshman Ellie O’Callaghan, 5-1; junior Courtney Colwell, 4-1; and senior Paola Peraza, 4-1.

Last weekend, Team 1 competed for the League championship for the first time. The tournament was at New York Sports Club in White Plains and “Flight A” consisted of the best high school players from Rye, Greenwich, and Darien competing in a round robin format. The teams were evenly matched, but Rye was runner-up to Darien with a score of 3-4 in seven close matches. O’Callaghan and Peraza won both of their matches.

Finishing 1-1 were Colwell and seniors Emma Jennings and Charlotte Goldman.
