For the second consecutive year, the Garnets won the Division 1 Fairwest League championship.

For the second consecutive year, the Garnets won the Division 1 Fairwest League championship. They earned the championship title January 31 by defeating Darien 7-0 at Rye’s new home, Life Time Fitness.

All seven players made quick work of their opponents, without dropping a game. At No. 1, sophomore Caroline Neave remained undefeated for the season. Competing in the No. 2 spot is freshman Caroline Baldwin. Princeton-bound senior Co-Captain Clarissa Carson-Rose dominates in the third spot. Rye’s No. 4 player, junior Ellie O’Callaghan, has greatly improved from last year. Kira Kacha occupies the fifth spot.

 

Isabel Abt, who plays in the sixth spot, dominated the competition. Completing the shut out was senior Co-Captain Chloe Jennings.

 

The team and Coach Anthony Campbell were ecstatic with win, and how well they have done this season. What’s the secret to their success: “hard work, practice, and putting in the time.”

This weekend, the Garnets will play at the US Squash High School Nationals in New Haven, where they have their highest seed ever. They moved from Division 3 to Division 2 and are seeded fifth.

One of the many highlights of the season for the Garnet girls was their trip to the afterschool Street Squash program in Harlem, where the team helped teach the game to underprivileged children.
