RHS Golfers Win League Title; Three Advance to Sectionals

The Rye boys’ golf team won the League title with a record of 13-3. On Wednesday, the Garnets placed second in their conference and three players advanced to the Sectionals.

The Rye boys’ golf team won the League title with a record of 13-3. 

 

And the Garnets placed second in their conference Wednesday, advancing three golfers to the Sectional Championships. One qualified for States.

 

During the Conference Team Championship at Sleepy Hollow Country Club on May 16, RHS finished second behind Briarcliff.

 

Briarcliff shot 196, Rye 214, and Fox Lane 223.  Senior captain Andrew Gladstone shot a 38.

 

 

The top three RHS golfers, Gladstone, junior Henry Bailey, and eighth-grader James McHugh competed in the Sectional championships starting Tuesday at Mahopac Country Club.


Coach Pat Romano said, “We had another very successful season and were able to accomplish one of our team goals, winning the League title.”


On Wednesday, Gladstone qualified for the State Championships at Cornell University on June 3-4.
“For him to make it is really awesome,” Romano said.
Gladstone shot a 76 at Mahopac and an 80 at Sleepy Hollow Country Club.
McHugh missed advancing to Sectional finals by just one stroke, shooting an 84 at Mahopac.
