In a rollercoaster season, after losing their first four games, the Garnets Softball team won five of their next six games, then promptly lost the next three.  Their most recent win was 6-2 romp against Port Chester at home April 28.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third when Ali Cardino hit a triple to left field and scored on a sacrifice fly by Lindsey Johnson. The Garnets rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fourth. Rye’s first two batters, Hannah Mullaly and Lauren Dempsey, got on base on throwing errors. They executed a double steal before Cardino reached base on the third error of the inning. Johnson drove home Mullaly and Dempsey on a single to left field. Cardino and Johnson scored on a double to center by Taylor Volpe, who scored on a sacrifice fly by Katherine Brown.

The Rams threatened a comeback in the fifth inning. They loaded the bases and scored two run, but the Garnets got out of the inning on a beautiful double play.

Brown pitched a complete game allowing just three hits and one earned run. She struck out ten. Cardino had a triple and scored two runs. Johnson had two RBI and Volpe had a two RBI double.

In a double header on April 30 Rye lost to Maria Regina 10-2 and Westlake 16-15 in eight innings. Their most devastating loss was against Harrison May 2 an 18-0 shelalcking.

The Garnets are now 5-8 and 2-2 in league play. Coach Alex Tejera hopes the team can shake off their Harrison loss and get back on track soon.
