Following her winning leap of 4’6” in the high jump over teammate Charlotte O’Connell, Kirby took the long jump by a single inch. Her 14’5” effort gave her team another crucial five points for the victory over the Bobcats’ Momo Yashida. (Had that inch been reversed, the Byram Hills girls would have won the meet.)
Meanwhile, the Garnet boys were running away with things. Despite dropping both the opening 3,200-meter relay and the closing 1,600-meter baton-pass, they finished one-two in both hurdles races (110 and 400 meters), with Alec Miranda showing his heels to the field each time. In the 1,600 meters, Rye swept the board: Ryan Bird took it with a time of 4:42.1, with teammate Jack Ryan second in 4:46.3, and Finn Mundinger a second and a half back in third.
Ian George and Brandon Oliver took the shot put and discus, respectively; Dan Mangum and Alec Howells did the same in the high jump and pole vault. Howells and Miranda added second-place finishes behind each other’s victories and the Garnets copped the 4×100-meter relay to take home the laurels, 63-38.
