Rye High School officials reported that vandals damaged portable classroom windows and carved anti-Semitic graffiti into the windshields of three school trucks early Tuesday.

Rye City Police were notified, and the incident is under investigation by the Detective Division.

On its website, the Rye City School District made the following statement: “We are appalled at this disturbing act, which is certainly NOT acceptable in or reflective of the Rye community.”

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) condemned the vandalism at Rye High.

Ron Meier, ADL New York Regional Director, issued this statement:

“The defacement of public school property with a message of hate represents an attack on the entire community. The Nazi swastika is a universal symbol of hate, meant to instill fear and intimidation and we urge members of the community to speak out and declare in one voice that such incidents are unacceptable.

“We applaud the immediate response by the Rye Police Department and Westchester County District Attorney’s Office and stand confident that those responsible will be identified and brought to justice for these disgraceful acts.”
