Advances in knee, hip, and shoulder surgery have made life so much more tolerable than it would be otherwise. Furthermore, in addition to diminishing pain, people, instead of having to use a cane, are back playing tennis and golf. We should all collectively say a prayer of thanks for these miraculous procedures.
However, when all is said and done, there is one development that in my opinion dwarves all of the technology we have witnessed, and that is the television remote. Think of how miserable life would be if you wanted to go from Fox News to ESPN and then back to Fox News and you had to keep getting up!
A close second is the flip-top opener on beer cans. If you are old enough you can remember the horror of being out on a boat in the scorching heat with a chest of cold beer and realizing that the pariah in charge of bringing the beer had forgotten to bring a “church key”.
Keep those prayers coming.
