The British have to be very happy how everything worked out with their hosting the Olympics. I felt badly for them for the first three days. At that point they had one medal and were tied with Bahrain and Trinidad & Tobago. Things weren’t looking too good for the home team. But then they took off and ended up in fourth place in total medals won, behind the USA, China, and Russia. They were third in gold medals, moving them ahead of Russia. When one considers the size of the populations of the other three behemoths it was an amazing feat. The British should be very pleased at how well the Olympics were run and very proud of how well their athletes performed. 

 

On the last Friday of the Olympics I was surfing on TV, since there were so many events being shown on different channels. Voila!  All of a sudden, I caught an event and couldn’t believe what I was watching.

 

It was the gold medal Women’s Field Hockey Game. The Netherlands, which had won the gold in Beijing, was playing Argentina. It so happens I have strong connections with both countries. It also is a fact that there are millions of extremely good-looking people living in both countries. However, what I saw on my TV screen defied belief. Both the Dutch and the Argentine girls were not only great athletes, but also spectacularly good looking.

 

One of the teams playing looked like Victoria’s Secret models, while the other team looked like they would be going on a photo shoot at the conclusion of the Games for the next Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. (The Dutch girls, by the way, won the Gold again 2-0.)

 

My advice for all you men out there is to find a 2016 calendar. Mark on the calendar the dates of the Rio Olympics and make a notation to make sure you don’t miss the next encounter between the Netherlands and Argentina in Women’s Field Hockey. It will probably be the highlight for you in the next Olympics and possibly for many Olympics to come.
