Perhaps the volleyball team should be nicknamed “The Amazings’’.

Without a doubt, Coach Andrea Reiff is amazing. Coach Reiff, who took the helm of the beleaguered volleyball team last year when it lost all its games, has righted the ship, and helped it cruise into first place.

The team is 8-0 in league play and 8-1 overall.

Perhaps the volleyball team should be nicknamed “The Amazings’’.

 

Without a doubt, Coach Andrea Reiff is amazing. Coach Reiff, who took the helm of the beleaguered volleyball team last year when it lost all its games, has righted the ship, and helped it cruise into first place.

 

The team is 8-0 in league play and 8-1 overall with an early season loss to Sleepy Hollow when its star player, Jessie Moore, was injured.

 

Several of the Garnets’ winning matches were marathons, with Rye fighting back from a 1-2 deficit to win 3-2. In the biggest game of the season so far, when first place was at stake, Rye beat Keio at home on September 24 in a two-and-a-half-hour match.

 

Junior go-to players Courtney Brown and Jessie Moore have been averaging the most kills per game. Against Keio, Brown had 21 kills and 13 digs; Moore had 18 kills and 19 digs. Also starring in that win were Gianna Pagnelli with 33 digs and Merijon Biga with 21.

 

Coach Reiff commended Marissa Curlen for setting a tremendous game, allowing the hitters to be successful. Three days after beating Keio, Rye topped Port Chester at home, winning with scores of 25-9, 25-19, and 25-12.

 

Reiff said the battle for the League championship title is going to be very close. “We have the ability to beat everyone, which we have shown during the first round of the season,’’ she said. “I believe the girls have the heart, the drive, and the skill. Anything can happen and we cannot take a single game lightly. Either way, I am proud of how far we have come.”

 

RHS is No. 1 in its League after defeating Hamilton at home on Monday. Against Hamilton, Brown led the team with 19 kills. Rye was scheduled to play Keio in a rematch on deadline.

 

Dig Pink Fundraiser

 

Coach Reiff hopes everyone will wear pink and support the team October 11 at 6 p.m. during its DIG PINK fundraiser for breast cancer research. Rye plays Blind Brook at home that evening, with the League title in contention.
