RYE RESCUES: Pawtrait of a Photographer

One of America’s preeminent pet photographers lives right here in Rye, and, unsurprisingly, is a rescuer himself.

One of America’s preeminent pet photographers lives right here in Rye, and, unsurprisingly, is a rescuer himself. Geoffrey Tischman brilliantly captures the true spirits of pets and the special bond we have with them. His portraits of adopted animals and their owners have been exhibited on the walls of the ASPCA NY shelter on 92nd Street and in the lobby of the Empire State Building, and can also be seen on Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet and Best Friends Pet Care products.

Geoff works with Hearts Speak (www.heartsspeak .org), an organization that donates photographic equipment to shelters around the country and trains shelter staff how to use the equipment to take great photos, increasing adoption rates.

While he primarily takes photos of other families and their pets, he was happy to share a picture of his daughter Sydney with Lexy, the dog they adopted earlier this year from Stamford Animal Care & Control, and a picture of him with his former rescue dog Baxter, whom he lost after 13 wonderful years.

An exhibit of his work recently opened at Méli-Mélo restaurant in downtown Greenwich. From now until the show ends October 5, he will donate $50 to Adopt-A-Dog for every pet portrait session booked — a win-win all around.

If you have a rescue story to share, email RyeRescues@gmail .com.
