Strengthen, Lengthen and Tone – a Total Body Workout

SLT introduces a hot new fitness concept to the region that promises to strengthen, lengthen, and tone the body quickly and safely. SLT opened on October 15 at 9 Rye Ridge Plaza, next to LV2BFIT, and has already attracted a large following. The ten Megaformers, an evolution of the Pilates reformer, were all in use on a recent visit and participants were working hard and having fun moving to the music.

“People try it once and fall in love with it,” said Marisa Olszewski, manager.

SLT’s small group classes are 50 minutes and combine elements of Pilates, strength training and cardio, all designed to sculpt the body and burn calories faster than one would when performing any one of these formats alone. The Megaformer, unique to SLT, provides constant resistance by using a system of springs and pulleys and allows the body to shift quickly and smoothly from one exercise to another to maintain increased heart rate.

Founded and owned by fitness entrepreneur Amanda Freeman, SLT is based on the principles of the Lagree Fitness Method, popular among celebrities and created by LA fitness visionary Sebastien Lagree. SLT Studios are located in Midtown Manhattan and Soho, as well as in the Hamptons. Another will open soon in Short Hills, N.J. For more information or sign up for a class, visit www.sltnyc.com or call 305-5880.

SoulCycle Getting Ready to Ride

SoulCycle will soon be just a sprint away when its new 2,300 square-foot studio opens on November 6 downstairs at 21 Rye Ridge Plaza. Complete with 47 bikes, men’s and women’s locker rooms, and showers, SoulCycle Rye Ridge will also feature its custom Listening Bar, signature Polaroid Wall, and a SOUL boutique with original apparel, as well as private labels.

This is the company’s 21st location and like the studio in Greenwich, SoulCycle Rye Ridge will offer its popular high energy, calorie-burning cardio workout accompanied by upper body conditioning with weights and core exercises, all designed to release stress, burn fat, tone muscle, improve aerobic endurance, and change bodies. Riders enjoy the upbeat music, inspirational coaching, community environment, and party-like atmosphere.

Classes will run seven days a week and on most days, the first class will start at 7 a.m. and the last at 6:30 p.m.  A Grand Opening party will take place on Saturday, November 9 and will include a photo booth, DJ and samples from Chop’t. For more information, visit www.soul-cycle.com or call 713-1201.

A Taste and a Toast at the New Wine Cellar

The Wine Cellar, a welcome boutique wine shop, opened a few weeks ago in the main plaza at 122 South Ridge Street. The shop is stocked with well-known labels, along with its own assortment of Cellar Select wines, which are of premium-quality, and typically handcrafted from smaller, family-run wineries from around the world, according to Lauren Saracco, marketing director of The Wine Cellar Group.

Shoppers can mix and match Cellar Select wines and receive discounts on six packs and cases. The Wine Cellar offers wines at a variety of price points with the majority in the $12 to $50 range. A complimentary wine gift bag is included with a purchase.

Customer-friendly, the store displays its wines by countries and has a large table for tastings. There are always bottles available for sampling. More formal tastings will take place every other Thursday evening.

The store is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 12 to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Other Wine Cellars are located in Boynton Beach, Fla., Red Bank, N.J, and Bee Cave, Texas, and there are also two outlet locations in Joliet, Illinois and Cincinnati. A third outlet will open this winter in Wallingford, Connecticut.

Need a Thanksgiving wine? The Wine Cellar has several recommendations: Gran Valle de Niebla Gewurztraminer 2011 from Chile, The Jumper Sauvignon Blanc 2011 from Kiwi winemaking star James Macdonald, De Loach Pinot Noir, and Domaine Pardon Cuvée de l’Ermitage Beaujolais-Villages 2010.

Watch for an Open House Thanksgiving tasting November 23 and 24. Visit http://winecellarryeridge.com or call 481-880.
