The Rye Triathlon Club hosted its annual new members’ meeting February 6 at Rye High School.

 

The Rye Triathlon Club hosted its annual new members’ meeting February 6 at Rye High School. The club, established in 2004, has grown from a handful of members to close to 300.

 

Founder and current chairman Ray Kelly was happy to report that 2012 was a banner year for the club, which marked its first year as a 501(c) 3 organization. The club distributed $10,500 to a number of charities: $3,000 to Challenged Athletes Foundation, $3,000 to Mac Angels — Supporting Families with ALS, $3,000 to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, $500 to Wheels of Progress, and $1,000, including food supplies, to Red Cross earmarked for victims of Hurricane Sandy.

 

At the meeting, club member Theresa Carey was presented with the Ray’s Cheers award for Mentorship and Volunteerism for her work during the 2012 season.

 

The club is off to a great fundraising start in 2013, having raised $2,800 at the New Year’s Day Ray’s Plunge.

 

The Rye Tri Club combines the love of the sport with a principal foundation of charitable giving. It offers members training sessions and plans, group workouts, social gatherings, and an up-to-date website with events, tips, articles, and resources.
