In a letter to the community, City Councilmember Lori Fontanes said that sometime in 2024, for both personal and professional reasons, she planned to emigrate to Paris. “I am heartbroken that I cannot commit to remaining in Rye,” she added.
Ms. Fontanes, who is on the November ballot, explained that under NYS Board of Elections law her name will remain on the ballot on the Democratic line for City Council, but that she will no longer campaign for reelection. “I’m sharing this with you now in order to be as transparent as possible with everyone. Regardless, I fully support my running mates, Josh Nathan and Jamie Jensen, in their race for Council and ask that you support and vote for them.
“No matter what, please know that for as long as I am your elected representative, I will continue to serve this community with everything I’ve got. I will continue to be your voice at City Hall, as promised.”
On the November ballot, there are four residents running for three open seats. Keith Cunningham, who had a long and distinguished career in finance, is running on the Republican line.
