Music, food, games, sports, T-shirts, and more, all in one weekend.

On Friday April 5 and Saturday April 6, the whole Garnet community of Rye will gather on various sports fields to watch and participate in all that G-weekend has to offer.

G-weekend’s main goal is to bring the community together in order to appreciate, applaud, and support the talents of Rye High athletes. As a kickoff to the upcoming spring season, the boys’ tennis team will host a match against Harrison at 4:15 p.m. on April 5 at Rye Recreation.

April 6, a varsity track meet against Rye Country Day and Port Chester High School is set to start at 11 a.m. at the RHS track. Girls’ varsity softball will host Rye Country Day at noon at RHS, followed by boys’ varsity baseball playing Port Chester at 2 p.m. on Feeley Field at Disbrow Park.

The junior varsity girls’ lacrosse team hosts Somers at 2:45 p.m., following by their varsity team against Somers about two hours later, both on the home turf.

Last but not least, the boys’ varsity lacrosse team will host Lakeland at 7 p.m. to end a fun-filled, action-packed weekend that you won’t want to miss.

The plan to create G-weekend began last spring after the Rye girls’ lacrosse teams played at John Jay-Cross River during their “J-Fest.” A Rye parent suggested that RHS host a similar event, mentioning the concept to Athletic Director Rob Castagna. Then he, RHS coaches, administrators and parents were involved in making the idea a reality.

All proceeds from G-weekend will go toward construction of a new field house. Castagna said one of the main objectives of G-weekend is for “the students, the band, the sports teams, and the community to all to support each other”

Elementary students will have an opportunity to race around the track and the Rye Youth Lacrosse teams will be playing at half time of the varsity lacrosse games. T-shirts with new Garnet designs will be sold, along with refreshments, and food. The Rye High School band, the House Band, and a DJ will be playing throughout the weekend. Be sure to mark down G-weekend on your calendars, it will be a weekend full of support, Garnet-pride, and fun!
