Erickson, Johnson, Repetto Elected

Over 2,000 residents went to the polls May 18 and voted overwhelmingly in favor of the Rye City School District’s proposed 2021-22 budget. The unofficial tally was 1,529 to 494. The $94.2 million budget is a 2% increase over 2020-21.

In the School Board race, incumbents Callie Erickson and Chris Repetto won reelection and Kelsey Johnson, an active volunteer at Midland School and co-chair of the City’s Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Committee, won the third open seat. Erickson received the most votes, 1,211, followed by Johnson with 1,062, and Repetto with 1,061.

Interest in running for office was high this year, with eight candidates

vying for three spots.

Bozidar Jovanovic, who finished fourth with 796 votes, campaigned vigorously and had name recognition — his supporters placed yard signs (Boz for BOE) all over town. He raised the issue of critical race theory being injected into the District’s schooling.
