Francis Scott Gedney of Denver, Colo. and Rye, N.Y. died in Denver on August 3, 2021, at the age of 46.

Scott, as he was called, was born on December 1, 1974, at United Hospital in Port Chester, N.Y. He was the son of Susan Mary (Langhammer) and

Robert W. Gedney II.

He became active in Boy Scouting starting in Osborn Elementary School and attained the highest rank, Eagle Scout, at Rye High School. An avid skier, Scott was a member of Rye High’s Ski team and enjoyed skiing with family and friends at Mt. Snow in West Dover, Vt., and on the mountains of Colorado.

After graduating from Rye High in 1993, he went on to study Hotel/Restaurant Management at SUNY Cobleskill. His love and talent for cooking led him to positions from Rye to Vermont to California and on to Colorado.

“Scott was an organ donor; he will live on,” said his family. “This is exactly who he was; we will miss him but know he’s changed lives by being taken so young.”

He is survived by his sister, Erin Wood (Frank) of Rye Brook, N.Y.; his aunt and uncle, Ellen (Gedney) and Harold Slater of Rye; his uncle and aunt, James and Suzanne Gedney of Cambridge, N.Y.; and his cousins: Harold Slater (Karen) of Jay, N.Y., Matthew Slater (Mary) of Greenwich, Conn., and Lily Merrit (Paul) of Chicago; and many good friends. He was predeceased by his parents.

A wake will be held Sunday, August 22 from 1-4 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home in Rye. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Church of the Resurrection August 23 at 10 a.m. The mass will be livestreamed for those who are unable to attend in person.
