The Harrison Public Library and the Rye Free Reading Room are excited to announce a new programming partnership between the two libraries. Starting next month, both Harrison and Rye residents will be able to attend Sensory Storytimes at the Harrison Library, presented by the Kiyoko Brown Lekotek Center of Cerebral Palsy of Westchester.
Sensory Storytime is a new interactive and educational program for all children but is especially designed for those with sensory integration challenges and their families. The program utilizes interactive play opportunities and the accompanying learning experiences to integrate children with special needs into the library and community settings. Incorporating peer modeling, fine and gross motor skill activity, and reading opportunities with music, dance, and crafts, children ages 3 to 8 will be able to enjoy story time in a safe and fun environment that prepares them to attend future library programs.
“The library is here to serve all the children in our community, and I am excited to be able to offer this exciting program,” Harrison Library Director Galina Chernykh stated. “The majority of Harrison households have young children who love to read, grow, and learn at the library, and this is one way they can connect with books and reading.”
Chris Shoemaker, Director of the Rye Free Reading Room concurred. “This is a wonderful opportunity for the families of Rye and Harrison, and I am excited to continue developing shared programs between the Rye and Harrison libraries.”
Sensory Storytimes will be offered January 4, February 8, March 29, April 26, May 10, and June 14.
There are two sessions per date. Children ages 3 to 5 are welcome to attend the 9:45 session.
Children ages 6 to 8 are invited to attend the 10:45 session.
