Chris Murphy is taking his zeal for squash to another level at Bucknell University, where the Rye High graduate competes on the men’s club team and now serves as Bucknell Squash Alumni Relations Director. Thanks to Murphy, his teammates, alumni, and supporters, the school plans to build four new international courts.

A junior, majoring in accounting, Murphy has seen first-hand the growth of the sport and the level of play at the university. In April, Murphy, who has been in the starting lineup for the past two years, helped organize the inaugural Bucknell Students Versus Alumni/Supporters Tournament at the University Club in New York City. “The purpose of the event was to raise funds for our program to get the last bit of money to build international courts, as well as building an endowment for both the men’s and women’s team,” said Murphy, who reported about the event on the College Squash Association’s website.

During the process, Murphy connected with Rye resident Don Hansen, Bucknell ’94, who also played on the club team and was instrumental in finding more supporters. Of his new role, Murphy says, “I love being able to make the most out of whatever I do and this helps me do that. Also meeting the alumni who play squash is something I enjoy.”
