Let it Glow

Walk into Woodrow Jewelers, one of Rye’s longtime businesses, and you’ll notice a new shine to the shop. They’ve started creating special boutique areas and it shows — and it glows — from the Lalique mirror on your right to the Marco Bicego display. You can meet the Italian designer yourself this Saturday, December 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. He’ll be presenting his latest Murano collection  — semi-precious stones in 18-karat bezel settings — and engraving every piece you purchase. Bicego brings new meaning to elegant everyday jewelry, so don’t miss this special opportunity.

If you’re looking for something special for the man in your life, head around the corner in Woodrow’s to the display of William Henry knives. They’re all beautifully engineered and the handles are made from rare materials, including dinosaur bones and cocobolo wood from Mexico.

Our attention was drawn to the neighboring Spark display. This New York designer is known for the extraordinary colors. They use the finest sapphires in the world, the bluest of blues.

Hark! Deck! Drink!

From elfin half bottles to more Santa-sized magnums, Wine at Five offers many cheerful ways to accompany a lunch or dinner. Or, maybe you’ve already eaten and just lit the old Yule log.

Did someone say “Pre-pancake Christmas morning bubbly?” Pop a half- bottle of Villa Jolanda Prosecco, $13, or Ployez-Jacquemart Champagne, $25.
Among other available half-bottles of note are reds from Burgundy, $11 and the Loire Valley, $14.

Cai and company can also accommodate bigger thirsts. For three years running, the Cep D’Or Cotes de Provence has been their biggest seller in the rosé category; a magnum is a great value at $32. Also, Conti di Buscareto Rosé Brut from Italy at $20.

You can sample locally bottled Doc’s Draft Hard Cider, $6 per bottle, as well, just like colonials once did at Widow Haviland’s Tavern across the street.
