Epidemic Answers, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, in collaboration with the Rye Chamber of Commerce and many local merchants, is hosting a charity shopping event in downtown Rye, Thursday, June 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. Participating stores will donate between 10 and 20 percent of sales to Epidemic Answers in support of the Canary Kids Film Project. Shoppers are invited to enjoy a glass of wine and light appetizers, compliments of Ruby’s Oyster Bar & Bistro.
The event is organized and run by a group of local moms in an effort to raise awareness to the new childhood “epidemics”: autism, ADHD, allergies, asthma, obesity, and other chronic conditions.
The Canary Kids Film Project has become a focal point for these moms, as it has the potential to alert millions of parents to the emerging health crisis in children. “Parents need to know there are answers and ways for children to get better,” said Mary Toulouse, one of the organizers.
The Film Project will provide seven children (who’ve been diagnosed with autism, ADHD, asthma, or another chronic condition) with free healing and recovery services for a period of eighteen months. The children’s recovery journey will be followed and made into a feature-length documentary by award-winning filmmaker Mary Mazzio of 50 Eggs Films.
Dr. Martha Herbert, M.D., Ph.D., pediatric neurologist and professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School, will be overseeing the Medical Advisory Board for the Project and will also be performing a clinical study of the enrolled children.
