The Rye House Tour is less than a month away, and the town’s interest is piqued. The exact five homes that will be open to the public have not yet been revealed, but if you’ve had your eyes open, you may have seen an official hint — the House Tour’s signature red door placed out front.
If you’ve missed the traveling door, here are a few photos and clues to get you guessing. If you recognize your own home but were not aware that you’d volunteered to be on the House Tour, contact the committee immediately. We don’t want to surprise you in your bathrobe on May 18!
One house is a timeless Tudor that has been transformed into a thoroughly modern home. You’ll have to walk all the way inside to find out how. A second is a 1904 Victorian that has been reimagined as a contemporary farmhouse with state-of-the-art updates and a super chic sensibility. Another is a 1931 white-washed brick Colonial that has been maintained with perfect historic integrity on the outside, while having been transformed to provide ideal 2018 open-plan living on the inside.
The fourth is a lovingly restored 1884 Victorian home that brings history to life, with a relaxed 21st-century aesthetic. The fifth is a Midcentury hideaway built in 1969 and renovated to make it a uniquely tranquil and comfortable home.
House Tour chairs Karen Schulz and Lisa Hogan Luthringer report that tickets are selling fast. In between spending time inside five beautiful homes, enjoy lunch at Shenorock Shore Club with guest speaker Meg Braff, a nationally recognized decorator and author of “The Decorated Home: Living with Style and Joy”. It’s going to be a great way to soak up inspiration and beauty, all while supporting Rye High School.
Dads who can’t make the tour but want to support Rye High are invited to Dads Night Out on May 17. They’ll enjoy food truck fare, wine, beer, and bourbon at a newly constructed Forest Avenue home.
