Holy Child Basketball

What are the Gryphons looking forward to most this season, other than a winning one? Playing in their new field house.

Co-captains Adare Kennedy, Maddie Fitzwilliam, and Duci DelPriore are three of six seniors on the team, which consists of eight returning and four new players. “Speed and athleticism are our strength,” said Coach Mike Duignan. “But the girls will need to work on rebounding and controlling the tempo of the game in order to be successful.”

Holy Child’s opening game was December 4, post-press time, against Poly Prep.

 

RHS Boys’ Hockey

The Garnets are looking to their nine seniors to carry the team. Among them are: captain Tommy O’Brien at center and Theo Bresolin at left wing, goalie Daniel Bonaventura, and Will Hynson, an alternate captain and left wing. Coach Peter Thomas is excited to have new defensemen, Seamus Carroll and Alex Noga.

Their first game is December 3 at White Plains, post-press time. Their home opener is December 9 against Nyack/Tappan Zee.
 

 

RCDS Girls’ Ice Hockey

With four eighth graders and two freshman, including goalie Annie Hauser, the Wildcats are a young team, but senior co-captain and wing Charlotte Fleischman and junior co-captain center Olivia Weaver say the team looks good in practice and they are excited to work with the younger players. “Every player is talented, so what we need is to work on molding into a team,” said the co-captains.

In their first home game, December 11, the Wildcats face Greenwich High School.

 

RHS Girls’ Basketball

This should be an exciting season for the Garnet girls. All but three of the players are veterans. Coach Dennis Hurlie said he is counting on the returning duo of All State and All Section Maddy Eck and Katie Popp, along with All League Taylor Maurer and returning senior Ali Imam at the helm.

Co-captains Eck and Maurer said the team is gelling more with each practice and scrimmage. Coach Hurlie said, “We are excited to get on the floor in games that count to see where we stand. Expectations are high, but the schedule is challenging and we will have to play well in order to meet those expectations.”

In their first two games, December 5 and 6, the Garnets will go up against two AA teams at the Lady Falcons Showcase at Albany High School.

 

RCDS Girls’ Basketball

Coming off a NYSAIS championship season, the Wildcats lost several seniors to graduation and brought up eighth and ninth graders to replace them. Maddy Cooper, while injured, will still lead the team with fellow senior Melanie Mandell.

Coach Scottie Nails is returning for his second season with two new assistant coaches. “We’re a young team that has to learn to play together. The girls treat each practice like a game.”
