Students to ‘Open’ For World-Class Chamber Quintet

Each fall and spring, the Westchester Chamber Music Society brings world-class chamber ensembles to perform five concerts in an intimate setting with great acoustics at Congregation Emanu-El of Westchester.

The next program, on Sunday, March 10, at 4 pm, will feature the American Brass Quintet, which is internationally recognized as one of the premier brass chamber music ensembles.

The Society is continuing its successful “Youth Initiative” to partner with chamber music programs at schools and colleges across Westchester County in which top student chamber music groups “open” for world-renowned professional ensembles. The professional musicians provide feedback to the students in the form of a brief mini-master class. The students also participate in the post-concert Q&A session with the professional musicians. At the March 10 concert, a student brass quartet from Port Chester Middle School will “open” for The American Brass Quintet.

The American Brass Quintet is playing a diverse program that includes: a suite of 17th century dances; Khirkiyaan: Three Transformations for Brass Quintet by Indian-American composer Reena Esmail; three madrigals by Gesualdo; and three pieces composed in 2022: Anthony Barfield’s Samsāra, Jennifer Higdon’s Book of Brass, and David Biedenbender’s Sacred Geometry.

For 73 years, the Westchester Chamber Music Society has brought to Westchester first-rate chamber artists. Their mission is to provide live, world-class chamber-music concerts, support chamber-music performers, and help to sustain the arts community.

Tickets for the March 10 concert can be purchased online at WestchesterChamberMusic-Society.com or at the location, 2125 Westchester Ave. in Rye.
