The birds are chirping, spring is in the air, and the Chorister Program of Christ’s Church is hosting an open house for children in grades 2-5 in the choir room of Christ’s Church Thursday, April 25 from 4:30-6 p.m. Members of the community are invited to explore the opportunity of being in the Chorister program. Membership is open to children of all faiths and backgrounds and no previous experience in required.

“Expressing yourself through music is a joy and provides a great sense of accomplishment,” says Ruaraidh Sutherland, Organist and Director of Music at Christ’s Church. “Becoming a chorister fosters confidence, responsibility, and co-operation through regular rehearsals and performances, singing many different pieces of music,” he said. “This enables them to grow as strong team members. Our choristers are exposed to high art/musical masterpieces by the greatest composers at an early age.

“It provides a multi-generational experience and singing is the only activity where adults and children are equals,” he added. Being part of the program is also a lot of fun; children have the chance to attend annual choir camps, undertake sporting events, sing with other choirs, travel nationally and internationally (tours are planned for 2015 and 2018), as well as take part in professional CD recordings.

If you are looking for a place for your child to nurture their budding interest in music, help your child discover his or her voice, expose them to music and tradition and have fun in a group dedicated to music and singing, come to the open house on April 25, and/or contact Christ’s Church Music Department at 967-1749, ext. 229., or music@ccrye.org.
