State-funded overhaul of one of Rye’s most prominent public spaces will include four new showers and walkway.
The Rye Town Park Sustainability Project will incorporate various improvements to create a safer, more sustainable park and beach.
Since 2014, the off-leash hours had run daily from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the off season, which runs from around October through April.
The city, like the town, is enormously grateful to the Friends of Rye Town Park for their efforts, writes Emily Hurd.
From April through July, there have been 124 pavilion events.
'I try to come every day, sometimes only for a few minutes, it doesn't matter if it's cold,' wrote one Tripadvisor user about Rye Town Park.
The park contains 28 acres of land and 34 acres of beach, half of which is underwater at high tide.
The Friends group launched a fundraising campaign for its Rye Town Park Tower Building Restoration Project in April, initially with a goal of raising $350,000.
Both beaches at Playland and Rye Town Park received C+ grades in Save the Sound's recent water quality report. 
The group has already raised more than $90,000 toward their tower grant goal, according to Diana Page, president of the Friends of Rye Town Park.
