The game between the two top teams in the Westchester Baseball Association lived up to expectations — it was a nail biter to the end.

The game between the two top teams in the Westchester Baseball Association lived up to expectations — it was a nail biter to the end. In the bottom of the sixth, Myles Mullaly hit a walk-off three-run homer to lead the Rye Junior Garnets to the 11u Championship over TM Select from the Bronx, 5-4.

 

The Junior Garnets had struggled to get on base all game and could only muster one hit in the first five innings. Entering the sixth, and behind 4-1 with one out, the never-say-die team showed their resolve.

 

CJ Nemsick started things off with a single to deep right field, followed by a line drive base hit up the middle by Connor O’Brien, putting runners on first and second. Declan Lavelle drilled an RBI double to left center, scoring Nemsick and setting the stage for Mullaly and his towering homer.

 

In probably the best game of the season, Rye put on an incredible defensive performance against the strong-hitting Bronx team. “I’m proud of how we came back offensively, but our defense kept us in the game today,” said winning coach Mark Surhoff. “I’ve got to hand it to the boys; they played a great game!” Matthew Tepedino, Kole Wolfe, Liam Lavelle, Mark Surhoff, and Brendan Lavelle all came up with several key defensive plays to keep
