The FrenchAmerican School

When the 2020-2021 academic year begins at The French-American School next month, Lower School students will attend classes full time. Meanwhile, Middle and High schoolers will follow a hybrid plan, where one week one portion of the students will attend class in-person for three days and then attend virtual school for the next two daysand the following week reverse schedules to ensure that protocol is followed and no student is put in an unsafe situation. As an international school, FA will admit qualified students coming from other countries.

Team sports have, unfortunately, been cancelled to protect students and faculty.

However, the school is considering ways for teams to still practice. During recess and break times, students will be taken outside as often as possible.

A multitude of afterschool offerings — cooking, art, keyboard practice, playground play, sports outside, music and movement, coding, and robotics — will continue to be run by FA teachers and afterschool coordinators to allow students to spend time with peers who share their interests.

To ensure the best virtual learning experience, each classroom will be equipped with cameras that allow for students at home to see the rest of their classmates, as well as the teacher, and allow for a sense of community. Last spring, teachers and the IT team transitioned into virtual learning quite easily and are confident they are well-prepared for the upcoming school year.

Tutoring will continue as usual with every teacher offering extra support to any student who need sit. Students and families will also be able to reach out to their teachers to set up individual tutoring sessions.
