Thomas G. Nordmann, a Rye resident for over 55 years, passed away on April 2, 2020 at the age of 91. Born on February 21, 1929 in Mount Vernon, N.Y., he was the son of Clarence and Dorothea Nordmann.
He graduated from Harrison High School, class of 1947. In 1951 and 1952 he served in the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean War.
On September 1, 1951, he married the love of his life, Mary Conover, and they celebrated 64 wonderful years.
He worked for the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad and later was the owner of Rye Liquor Store, where he was fondly known as “the Prez”.
Mr. Nordmann served his community as a volunteer fireman and warden of the Rye Fire Department, and as a board member of the Rye City Lions Club and of Greenwood Union Cemetery.
A man of minimal needs, he loved woodworking and tending to his gardens, and most of all he loved to be around his family.
Mr. Nordmann was predeceased by his wife. He is survived by their children, Thomas “TJ” and his wife Hollie, Gail Nordmann, and David and his wife Mary; as well as seven grandchildren: Katie, Amber, Timothy, Emilie, Caroline, Connor, and Cassidy.
He will be interred at Greenwood Union Cemetery.
