Three Candidates Throw their Hats in the School Board Ring

School Board Candidates Throw Their Hats in Ring

With three candidates running for two seats, this year’s Rye City School District Board of Education election may actually be a horse race. The candidates are Jane Anderson, Jennifer Boyle, running for a second term, and Pooja Kotecha. Former board president Katy Glassberg has decided not to run for reelection.

Jane Anderson has an impressive resume in the field of education. Starting out as a 5th-grade teacher in Silver Spring, Maryland, she became a staff development teacher and eventually director of human resources for Stamford public schools. She was also director of human resources for Greenwich and Wilton public schools.

On moving to Rye six years ago, she served as co-president of Christ’s Church Nursery School, treasurer of Milton PTO, co-president of Milton PTO, community member-at-large for Rye City Schools Curriculum Council, and parent representative for the elementary math curriculum review committee. Her two children attend Milton School.

When asked why she is running, Anderson replied, “I know that where you spend your time is what you are passionate about. My professional career and volunteer experiences are all in education. Serving on the Board of Education would allow me to continue contributing to the success of all students.”

Among the tasks she’d like to accomplish is “increasing and expanding the District focus on social and emotional learning for all students, K-12. Research is clear that with social and emotional learning, all students perform at their best.”

At press time, Jennifer Boyle and Pooja Kotecha were unavailable for comment.

The League of Women Voters will hold a trustee candidate forum on May 9 at 7:00 pm at Rye Middle School multipurpose room. The election will be held May 21 at the Rye Middle School Gym from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
