Trimming the Town in Pink

Sole Ryeders & Friends, together with the Rye High School Breast Cancer Awareness Club, has launched TieTheTownPink.

Sole Ryeders & Friends, together with the Rye High School Breast Cancer Awareness Club, has launched TieTheTownPink. On the morning of October 1, they plan to adorn hundreds of trees throughout the City of Rye with pink ribbons, and to fashion the men, women, and children of Rye in pink hair/wrist ties to show support for those who are fighting breast cancer. Proceeds will benefit Sole Ryeders’ local cancer-related programs and services, including The Wig Exchange and Strand Together.

Beginning immediately, Rye residents and local businesses can purchase a ribbon to wrap around their own trees, mailbox, lamppost, or front door, or they can pre-order a ribbon for a volunteer to attach.
“Our goal is for Sole Ryeders, the RHS Breast Cancer Awareness Club, and the Rye High School Crew team to sell so many pink ribbons and hair ties, that when the Rye community wakes up on October 1st, our City will be swathed in a sea of pink,” said Susan Janart, TTTP co-Chair.

A TieTheTownPink Bundle of Hope costs $15 and includes two hair/wrist ties and a large pink ribbon. Pre-order at www.soleryeders.org/pink or purchase directly at Hudson Paul Salon on Purchase Street, or RowAmerica Rye on Milton Road.

“We are excited to do something meaningful to help women and families affected by breast cancer,” offered RHS sophomore Abi Goffinet, vice-president of the Breast Cancer Awareness Club. “It will be so cool to see Rye parents and students – male and female – sporting our TieTheTownPink hair and wrist ties.”

RHS senior and crew team member Brendan Faries, who currently leads Crew Cares, added, “The Crew team supports the Breast Cancer Awareness Club and Sole Ryeders via Crew Cares, our team’s community service initiative. We are hoping that our volunteers will have to tie pink ribbons around hundreds of trees in Rye during the early morning hours of October 1st, and throughout the month of October.”

Local sponsors of TieTheTownPink include: Citibank, Coldwell Banker/ Nancy Neuman, Hudson Paul Salon, RowAmerica Rye, and Grand Design Florist.

Founded in 2007, Sole Ryeders & Friends is a volunteer-driven organization which provides and supports local cancer-related programs. The name ‘Sole Ryeders’ stems from the founding members, who are residents of the City of Rye, and the organization’s annual participation in the 39-mile Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. The extensive network of over 300 dedicated individuals has used grassroots efforts to raise more than $1.75 million to help community members affected by cancer.
